| Product Features | This is an antique Victorian hair mourning brooch dating to the 1840s. The brooch features a beautifully detailed gold filled scrollwork frame surrounding a black enamel ground with applied gilt Gothic lettering reading “In Memory Of.” At the center is a compartment containing intricately arranged human hair, preserved as a sentimental memorial to a loved one. The reverse has its original C-clasp and pin stem, consistent with mid to late Victorian construction. A small top loop allows the piece to also be worn as a pendant. The elaborate Gothic Revival border sets off the stark design in the center, which reflects the solidarity of family values.
