| Product Features | Details:please note, Woodfire Pottery has a more rough/matte/rustic surface rather than shiny surface due to the firing process & the exposure to open flame, ash, & soda in the word fire kiln This pitcher was hand thrown on the pottery wheel by Marcus using a stoneware woodfire clay. in the greenware stage, free hand carved wheat was added into the belly of the pitcher. The beautiful rustic colors created by the wood fire kiln process make this absolutely beautiful & one of a kind. A thumb hold was added for extra grip on the pitcher that forms to your thumb! Dimensions : Approx 29 oz Height - 6 inches Lead free food safe glaze Dishwasher & microwave safe. WOODFIRE PROCESS: Once glazed, the pots are taken outside to the woodfire kiln area & are carefully placed inside the kiln depending on where you want the ash, fire, & smoke effects to hit them. Wood firing is a VERY labor intensive task. I requires 24/7 attention from start to finish & a log every hour as to the changes in cone & temperature (The whole process takes about 3 days). After the gas portion of the kiln is fired (about 10 hours straight), anywhere from 12-20 hours straight consists of throwing wood on both sides of the kiln every 3minutes to raise & keep the temperature in the kiln. It then has to cool off for 2-4 days before opening. This usually happens in 6 hour shifts between people so that you can rest in between. The open flame & ash decorates the pot & creates the shiny/matte/color on the pottery pieces. The type of wood & how consistent you feed the flame also will effect this color.
