Made in France in the 1980sFrame lightly worn and lenses are new, unworn and in perfect condition.An incredibly rare and beautiful signature piece by Patrick Kelly, featuring his typical buttons, mirrored by the round lenses on a masterful black acetate with his emblematic red buttons.Patrick Kelly was a celebrated African-American fashion designer who rose to success in France. Among his accomplishments, he was the first American to be admitted to the «Chambre Syndicale du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode», the prestigious governing body of the French ready-to-wear industry. Kelly's designs were noted for their exuberance, humor and references to pop culture and Black folklore.Kelly’s designs were worn by celebrities including Isabella Rossellini, Bette Davis, Cicely Tyson and Grace Jones. His designs frequently incorporated bright colors, were often embellished with ribbons and buttons and suggested a sense of whimsy and joy while sometimes addressing difficult issues of race. Kelly’s work pushed racial and cultural boundaries with “golliwog” logos, “Aunt Jemima” bandana dresses, and his ubiquitous black baby-doll brooches.
